Science and Space Technology will be promoted for the benefit of the Southeast

THE AEM WILL PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR PRIORITY SOCIAL TASKS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE POPULATION OF THE SOUTHEAST OF THE COUNTRY.

The Mexican Space Agency (AEM), a decentralized body of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), signed an agreement with the Anáhuac Mayab University (UAMayab) to provide greater training opportunities and promote research, technological development, innovation, and space venture, in the south-southeast region of the country.

The general director of AEM, Salvador Landeros Ayala, expressed his enthusiasm for establishing these links that promote space development in the region, highlighting that “The Mexican Space Agency will put all its efforts to promote the development of space science and technology for priority social tasks. for the benefit of the population of the southeast of the country”, he emphasized.

This collaboration will promote the development of joint scientific-technological projects; training for teachers and students in communication and satellite image and nanosatellite technology; specialized conferences; stays in the laboratories of the Regional Space Development Centers (CREDES) of the AEM and in other space agencies in the world, among others.

The Anáhuac Mayab is the first university in the south-southeast region that establishes this type of link with the AEM, with which the state of Yucatán ventures into the aerospace sector, which is why the Rector Miguel Pérez Gómez welcomed the signing of this agreement and expressed his desire to join the efforts that the AEM is already carrying out in an orderly and concrete manner.

Rector Pérez Gómez underlined the great relevance of this collaboration for the region, for which he highlighted the need to add space development to the scientific and technological capacities of Yucatan, training students and academics to generate projects that put Mexico among the actors of the global space industry.

For his part, Mauricio Cámara Leal, head of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Higher Education (SIIES) of Yucatan, commented that the space is a trend in technological development and generates a demand, so the state needs to bet on the issue. space and invest in the development of the aerospace sector in the region, as they have been promoting with the development of nanosatellites. 

The general coordinator of Human Capital Training in the Space Field, Carlos Duarte, commented that the efforts for the good of this region will continue, and expressed his gratitude for the enthusiasm and commitment of the university to finalize the agreement, since this alliance will provide benefits for Yucatan.

The event was also attended by the AEM, the General Coordinators of International Affairs and Security in Space Matters, and Financing and Information Management in Space Matters, Rosa Ma. Ramírez de Arellano y Haro, and Héctor Daniel Ortega Maciel , respectively;

Like the Directors of Interinstitutional Relations and Dissemination of the Mexican Space Agency, Guillermo Castro Sandoval, and Mario Arreola Santander, respectively; as well as Dr. Narciso Antonio Acuña González, research director of the UAMayab.
